Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 3 November 2026
Welcome. These terms explain how working with me works. I have kept them short and in plain English.
How to read them: Part A applies to all my services. Part B has a short section for each service: read the one you are booking (1:1 courses, News Bites, Movie Club, organisations). If you book a 1:1 course, or your organisation books training, your written offer also applies, and it comes first if the two say different things.
Part A: General terms
1. Who I am
SpeechLex is the business of Claudia Amato, Via Firenze 22a, 17100 Savona (SV), Italy, VAT number (P.IVA) 01689460093, email claudia.amato@speechlex.eu, PEC claudia.amato.savona@pec.it.
2. Who can book
My services are for adults (18 and over). Some rules in these terms (for example the right of withdrawal) protect consumers, meaning people who book for private purposes. If you book for your business or profession, for example with an invoice to your VAT number, those consumer rules do not apply to you.
3. Free services
The needs-assessment call, the Legal English Movie Club and my free materials (for example the Movie Club workbook and the News Bites sample lesson) are free and come with no obligation to buy anything. I may change or stop a free service at any time.
4. Prices, payment and invoices
The price is shown on the booking page or in your written offer before you pay. You receive an invoice for every payment. Prices are not subject to VAT: operation carried out under the flat-rate scheme (regime forfettario), Art. 1, paragraphs 54–89, Law no. 190/2014. For invoices above €77.47, a €2 stamp duty (imposta di bollo) is added, as required by law.
5. Live sessions: how we work together
All my sessions are online. To get the most from them:
- Respect. Everyone is learning, and mistakes are a normal part of it. Please be kind and patient with the others in the group.
- No recordings by participants. Please do not record, photograph or screenshot a session.
- What others share stays in the session. Other participants may talk about their work. Please keep it to yourself.
- I never record participants. Sometimes I share recordings of myself only (for example, answers to questions). These are part of my materials (see section 7).
If someone repeatedly behaves in a way that stops the session working for the group, I may ask them to leave. In that case I refund the session concerned.
6. What you need
A stable internet connection, a working microphone and Zoom. A camera is welcome. If you miss part or all of a session because of a problem with your own device or connection, the session is not refunded.
7. Materials
All materials I create and share (lesson packs, exercises, solutions, glossaries, workbooks, slides, recordings, and access to my vocabulary app) are my intellectual property. You may use them for your own study. You may not copy, share, sell or publish them, in full or in part, without my written permission. The official TOLES materials belong to their publisher and follow its own rules.
8. Confidentiality
To tailor 1:1 sessions to your work, you can send me documents you use (for example a contract, an email or a presentation). Before you share any real material, we sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). I use your documents only to prepare your sessions, I keep them strictly confidential, and I never share them with anyone. In the 1:1 Legal English Clinic, I may use AI tools to help prepare your personalised materials: before I do, I remove names, client details and anything else that could identify you or your clients.
A practical tip: never paste confidential client information into an AI tool, including the ones we use for practice.
9. Not legal advice
My services are language training. Nothing said or shared in a session is legal advice.
10. Realistic results
I work hard so that you make real progress, and I tell you honestly what to expect. But results depend on many things, including your practice between sessions, so I cannot guarantee a specific result, a level, or an exam score.
11. Liability
I take reasonable care in preparing and delivering my services. As far as the law allows, I am not liable for indirect losses, and my total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the service concerned. This does not limit liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or any other liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
12. Your data
I use your personal data only to provide my services and to send you the emails you have agreed to receive. If you buy one of my services, I may also send you emails about my similar legal English courses; you can stop them at any time with one click. The Privacy Policy explains what I collect, why, and your rights.
13. Your right of withdrawal (for consumers)
If you are a consumer and you buy a service online or at a distance, you can withdraw within 14 days, without giving a reason. Part B explains how this works for each service. To withdraw, use the cancel link in your booking confirmation (where there is one), write to me at claudia.amato@speechlex.eu, or use the model form at the end of these terms. You receive a confirmation of your request by email. Refunds are made within 14 days, using the payment method you used, unless we agree otherwise.
If you ask me to start a service within the 14 days and then withdraw, you pay only for what has already been provided. Once a service has been fully provided, you can no longer withdraw from it.
14. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim before the courts of your place of residence. In all other cases, the competent court is Savona.
If something goes wrong, please write to me first, so we can solve it directly. You may also contact an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) body in your country. This is optional, not a required step before going to court.
15. Changes
I may update these terms, for example when the law or my services change. The version in force on the day you book applies to your booking.
Part B: My services
B1. 1:1 courses (TOLES 1:1 Classes and 1:1 Legal English Clinic)
- Your offer. After the free call, I send you a written offer with your plan, the number of sessions and the price. When you accept it, it becomes our agreement, together with these terms.
- Sessions are private, online and last 60 minutes. We agree the dates together.
- First session, then decide. If you choose a pack, I invoice it after your first session, once you have decided to continue, and the first session is included in the pack. If you decide not to continue, you pay only for that session.
- Moving a session. You can move a session free of charge if you tell me at least 24 hours before. With shorter notice, or if you don't come, the session counts as delivered.
- If I need to cancel a session, I tell you as soon as I can, and we find a new date together. If no new date works for you, I refund that session. A session I cancel does not count towards your pack's expiry.
- Pack validity. A pack of 5 sessions is valid for 3 months, a pack of 10 for 6 months, and a pack of 20 for 12 months, from the first session. For other pack sizes, your offer says how long the pack is valid. Sessions not used by then expire.
- Your right of withdrawal. If you are a consumer, see section 13. If you want to start within the 14 days, you confirm it when you accept the offer.
- TOLES exam. The exam is optional. The exam fee is not included in the course price and follows the rules of the exam provider.
- Vocabulary app (TOLES 1:1 Classes). If you prepare for TOLES, access to the vocabulary revision app is included during your course and for 3 months after your last session.
B2. Legal English News Bites
- What you book. A live, online group class of 60 minutes, built around one real legal news story, with a maximum of 10 participants. When you book, you receive the lesson pack: the article, the key terms and the exercises. After the class, you receive the solutions and a glossary with all the key terms from the lesson.
- Level. The article is rewritten for an intermediate level (around A2–B1). You choose whether the level is right for you. The free sample lesson can help you decide.
- Booking and payment. You book and pay online for each class, on the booking page. There is no membership and no package.
- Cancelling. You can cancel for free until the class starts, with a full refund, using the cancel link in your confirmation email or by writing to me. Once the class has started, it cannot be refunded, whether or not you attend. You still receive the lesson pack, the solutions and the glossary.
- Your right of withdrawal. You can withdraw within 14 days of paying. Because the class may take place within those 14 days, at checkout you ask me to provide it before the 14 days end. You keep your right of withdrawal until the class starts, and you lose it for that class once it has taken place.
- Small groups. Classes run with at least 3 participants. I may still run a class with fewer people.
- If I cancel or move a class, I tell you by email as soon as I can, and you choose: your place moves to another Friday of your choice (I send you the new link), or you get a full refund.
B3. Legal English Movie Club (free)
- What it is. A free monthly club: one film about law, a workbook, and an optional live conversation online, once a month.
- How it works. You join by signing up to the Movie Club emails. You can unsubscribe at any time with one click.
- The films. You watch the film on your own, on a platform available to you. I do not provide the film.
- The live call is optional. You register with the link in the email. Places may be limited. It is not recorded, and section 5 applies.
- I may change the film, the date of the live call, or the format of the club.
B4. Training for organisations (law firms, companies, institutions)
If an organisation books training, the written agreement with that organisation applies. Part A applies to anything the agreement does not cover. Consumer rules (for example the right of withdrawal) do not apply.
